    Oldmeme Ahoy!

Ahahah man. Talk about really, really old meme. I just felt like making an icon like that, if not waaay out of date. Hey, I shouldn't care what people might think of my drawing subjects!

I just wish the ink didn't do...That. And what the hell is it with watercolors, I can only layer and shade thin, dull sections? Whenever I try to do that with nice, flat color blocks the shaded area gets nasty and washed out and urgh.

Yeah, I had to scan this in and clean it up with a mouse using a disproportionately badass scanner and copy of Photoshop. In the UAF computer lab. With people watching. Heh. I'm working on growing a thicker skin.

Later at home, when I grab the time, I'll clean this up and make a digital version for a 100px icon.

I feel inclined to just slack off this fine Saturday I have at the UAF.

    Two doodlings
    So most of my stuff's been lately class-related (see Lycosid @ dA), but here's two little things from my private sketchbook. I don't really show my super special original characters (c) top secret storyuniverse ideas donut steel. But here's some dinky things;

This is my character Renee. She has like one dream where she's a tiger.

This isn't really anyone in particular, and he's not from the same verse as Renee. This is one little design doodle for "sparklehumans"; a design that goes on people of British-Isle-ish descent, though it'd probably work better on southeast Asians, so that's very liable to change.

    And, uhh, that's it.

Mostly been on the go or working on homework stuff at home. And sleeping.

But hey, I want college to eat my life!

    @ UAF/College Corner (7-8-2009)

Yeah, the faces are kind of WHAT, but on the one with the two sections of the hill-thing on the edge of the eastern end of the campus, I think I see some improvement in object layout already.

This is from my 4x6" sketchbook. Pencils were .3 Mech HB and B woodcase (Ticonderoga)

Later today (Because I just did that thing where I woke up after two hours of sleep, like I did yesterday) I have Field Painting with D. Mollett. Sadly, I don't really know much about this Mollett person except that they are apparently very important around here. Also, I can't find that course syllabus online. Apparently, I was supposed to get mine in the mail (Well, that's what my parents told me, off the wall. Guess I'll take their word for it.)

But I think I'm good for materials.

(I just need to get my big portfolio back from the art department.)

    @ Denali National Park, July 6, 2009
Yesterday I got the delightful opportunity (I just now realized it's been years since last time, even though I live 3 hours away.) to go to Denali National Park. Even though it's not the best place to see Denali (Seriously. I think it's all in Glitter Gulch being a flat area) and certainly not a good place to stay (Some disgruntled ex-employees have been found to have stolen things including bear skin rugs, and my family's been stolen from, too. Thankfully, they stole our Game Boy Colors and the business got us some Game Boy Advances. Funny how these things work out.)

But it was a mystery shop thing, so I didn't have half as much time as I'd have liked to enjoy the nice mini-landscaping and natural beauty, not just of the mountains, but just the area itself. I seldom get to leave my home. There was also a forest fire, but thankfully it didn't get too far.

I really didn't have much time do kill outside (But I did have some, and I wasn't in the mood to eat a salad bigger than my head.) so I scratched these down with a .3 Mechanical pencil in my current 3X4" sketchbook. Page 24 has the outline of the forest fire scene (The smoke was so thick, you couldn't see the fire. I got so much debris in my book, I"m glad it didn't make a huge mess.)

Page 25 is kind of disastrous (I'm so bad about object layout) but I need to get over that thing where I'm ashamed of some stuff I drew coming out horrendous, and there it is.

Page 26 (Not labeled) is just some funky little car-thing I saw, a little doodle of the river and the cool, folded mountains beyond it, and at the very bottom, an outline of some mini-landscaping that I liked.

So I'm going to try to make that stuff more coherent, from memory (Memsketch is a good skill to develop.)

And I hope to go outside again!

Here's a leeetle thumbnail of that icon I'm working on for [info]kookamunga, now not looking too bad from the start! I'm trying to go about cleaning up work in Photoshop differently (Doing more work with the rough than just outlining it IRL and doing just the color in Photoshop. We'll see where this gets me.

Did this for $5, for my brother Daniel who very graciously supports my cause. Subject is Felicity, our wonderful first ferret who died February 4th, about five years old.

I went crazy on the ears there. Pika ears. But that's her, I guess.

    I should've drawn her more.

Anyway, the lines; on a whim I decided to try outlining with a brush, because I've seen some gorgeous brushwork and always felt that was way out of my league. But I got out my Connoisseur #2 Taklon round and got the tip wet. It stopped being fuzzy and snapped to a point, and then I thought I'd play with it.

    Hmm.

Perhaps I should mod it for later use.

Yes, I know, but they're fun to draw, admit it D:

I was just watching the Bernini episode of "Simon Schama's Power of Art" B) But srsly, goddamn am I jealous of that guy. And Caravaggio. And Picasso before he went cubism-happy. And other people.

Crits very welcome on this thinger. If i ever color it, I'd probably make it like marble and probably franken-throw in some sparklegirls admiring it in a sparklemuseum. Fun.

    WUFFLES
Now, teh wuffles have never actually been my thing. I know D; and I've been twelve years old, too. 'Course, back then my thing was fakemon, but whatevs.

    So!

Just a little taster for something that should be coming up that I hope will be chunky and chocolate with raspberry filling.

Also, I did this in like just two minutes, so I'mma run it through Photoshop for longer than that (Aiming for like 3-5 hours XD We'll see. But I ain't timing or anything.), see if I can take something moderately rough and refine it.

I really need to touch this thing more often

You know what tickles my fancy? Troll art and weird porn. You'd think I'd be more passionate about expressing myself and deep emotions and shit, but nonono it MUST be porn and troll art. What is wrong with me?

Hey, maybe one day soon I'll be gracing you duders with my personal best anthro machine people fucking.

These are like the first sketches I actually did in aaages that I don't think completely suck balls, so I'm now working on the finished Photoshop pieces of them. One on top is a kinda-different chimera, one on bottom is a recycled, rehashed fakemon I made up as a little kid.

    More dump.

This is a bunch of lousy life shit and a single brain doodle I had to throw in because I felt obligated to. Why here? Just to say I did. SHAME. It's for my CA sketchbook. You know what this means. Better get bustin'.

    This is just for fun.

Did this one a while ago. This would be a "super-generic" "cuddly carnivore"; Something blended out of cats, dogs, and weasels. The flesh-eating predators we all like to snuggle.

    Guess who's back
Internet! It is up and running! But I must be wary of those con-sarned flickery-dickery blackouts. Thankfully it's summer, and I've been cleaning up. Also...

I can't quit doodling whatever the crap this thingy is. Some SPACE ALIEN ZOMG that gets around via sonar, kind of like a bat. Didn't really develop it a whole lot or even give it a name. Don't think I'll be doing a whole lot with it, but still it's fun to draw.

    Ka-pwish!

Put it on DA, and now to see how the fangirls react.

Edit: Added a brief ref sheet for my very very very original sue who can't wait to give it to Jojo in the butt. WHAT DID THE SCANNER DO TO THE PENCIL SKETCHES. Oh well.

Welly-well-well-wells. I finished (!!!) something in Photoshop for the first time in aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages. Like woah. I mean, we're talking...Since 2006. Yeah. Some artistic issues I was having, but! It's getting better. Oh, thank god.

    Anyway... )
